As many of those who know me knows very well that I am a HUGE fan of Johnny Cupcakes . Many people ask me why though, why do I enjoy wearing cupcakes on t-shirts so much? Why do I follow such a strange trend? What is it about this "Johnny Cupcakes" that I love so much?
Honestly there are way too many answers to give and far too many questions to ask, NONE can truly explain how it is within. With a brand like Johnny Cupcakes, its MORE than a just a mere brand or a mere piece of fabric that you wear on a daily basis. True indeed that the T-shirts created through this brand is unique and eye catchy. But honestly anybody can MAKE a t-shirt and make a few dollars, but FEW can CREATE a t-shirt that captures their essence and lifestyle within it and EVEN FEWER STILL, can someone take this object, and PASS ON that said essence and lifestyle through to other people.
Do I admire the brand because owner, Johnny Earle, is a multimillionaire? No
Do I admire him because he gets to travel all over the world? No
Do I admire the fact that the man gets stopped by mobs of fans and supporters that hang on to his every word? Again, NO!
What is it though? True that these aspects of Johnny can be the envy of numerous people who want that fame and glory but honestly to me, I admire the man for whole different aspects.
How many people do you know can create something out of the trunk of their rusty old car and turn it into a profitable business?
HOW many people can ignore the lure of corporate investors throwing massive amounts of money in your face and turning them down repeatedly so that you can keep your business personal, even though people said it was a bad idea?
How many people do you are willing to take SO many risks in life?
In the end, with all these steps taken, how many people do you know are able to do all of these things, become a success, yet keep their identity, humbleness and passion the same?
The only way to truthfully answer a Johnny Cupcakes question is to oddly enough, ASK a question as an answer.
I'm aware that there are many other similar brands that does almost the same thing that Johnny and his brand does but not quite.
What other designers/brand owners keeps their business as personal as Johnny does? Holds block parties, stays behind to chat and answer questions with customers, treats their customers out to meals and snacks? The man does so much yet is still able to remain humble and true to his roots.
I admire the fact that he does what he loves and makes a living out of what he's passionate for, as well as being able to continue on his passion and energy onto others, if you are a fan of Johnny Cupcakes then you can't help but smile when you are around the man and others who support his brand.
There is just so much innocence and positive, carefree energy rooted within his brand that it just oozes all throughout the entire Johnny Cupcakes business.
I admire Johnny Cupcakes for the man BEHIND the brand....and the ill shirts that he makes. haha
FACTS!
- Johnny is a SELF MADE multi-millionaire at a young age
-Never had any practical business training
-Started his brand as a joke
-Sold his first shirts out of his rusty old Toyota
Don't follow . LEAD!
-FunkMistah_J
For the record, I am NOT a Johnny Cupcakes hypebeast or a blinded follower who just follows trends or what other people say.
We had such a BEAUTIFUL weekend and ALL of a sudden all of this rain poured out of nowhere. What happened to the sun? Where is my sunshine!?
All this rain is depressing, I hope the sun comes back out soon. Check out these two videos that had me smirking from ear to ear. Its pretty creative and if it doesn't put a smile on your face then your a robot!
Check out this dude on Chatroulette doing feed from a concert and giving everyone who logs in a live show.
For those of you who don't know what chat roulette is, its basically a site where you go on and it connects you with strangers from all over the country and you talk to them
Honestly I can say waking up and having your own brand is pretty much the same as waking up on Christmas Day. I LOVE waking up and seeing new orders on my website. Its cool to know that people from all over the US are ordering my shirts. People that I don't even know in places of towns and cities I never knew existed let alone pronounce!
Just getting out today's orders, Shout outs to Texas and California! Thank you for all of those who has supported the brand thus far! You're the best! Always keep a lookout for the blog for updates and improvements!

"It was announced on Shing02's website that the Japanese hip hop producer Nujabes has passed away in a fatal car accident in Tokyo, Japan on February 26, 2010. He was 36 years old.
Nujabes was definitely one of the best that ever did it. Thank you Nujabes. You are a true inspiration and blessing. Your music will live on. Rest in peace brother.
"Today, I have very somber news for the international hip hop community, especially fans of the independent hip hop scene, and those who have followed my career. It has been announced that Jun Seba, aka Nujabes, Japanese hip hop producer extraordinaire, passed away late February. Official statement from the label (in Japanese) here: http://hydeout.net/hydeout/2010/03/_hydeoutproductions.html We deeply regret the loss of a unique talent and a close friend. Through his soulful music, Nujabes has touched so many people around the world, even beyond his dreams. He was a mysterious character to most as he avoided the public limelight, rarely conducted interviews, so only a few got to know the man behind the signature production. Yet it continued to amaze me how young listeners of all backgrounds learned of his enigmatic name, and expressed support for his music. As I write now from Japan, I had been leaving him messages the past couple of weeks, trying to get in the studio together, so the news could not have come any more unexpected. Even last week, I passed by his house and called him thinking he was still home. I met Nujabes around 2000 and as an upcoming MC, I was fortunate to work on tracks such as Battlecry, F.I.L.O, Luv(sic) parts 1, 2 and 3. We had been working on the next trilogy of Luv(sic) over the past year (which we're determined to see through). The last time we talked in January, Nujabes emailed me to wish Jeff Resurreccion, a 19-year old beatboxer who had just passed way from cancer, his heartfelt condolences. While we continue to respect the privacy of his family, we will work to preserve his legacy, and pay tribute to the body of work, some unreleased, that he has left for us to enjoy. Jun Seba will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and fans worldwide.
in peace,
Shing02"
It had to be him....one of the few people who kept hip hop alive and did the impossible and reinvented it. *sigh*
Today's a sad day, Canceling all of my plans and staying in and jamming to Nujabes and mourning his death, those who are fans and supporters of his. Keep his memory alive and never forget him or his music.
Being a old school hip hop head, Mainstream hip hop just doesn't cut it for me today. Honestly how can most of these tracks pass for music? These here are some of my fave old school tracks mixed with a lil underground tracks to jam to. The sun is out and shining! Hop off ya 360s and PS3s, bust out that ool-aid and go cruising! Play ball, go dance, go out! Enjoy that sun!

In many ways I can say that having a brand is a extension of life itself. A person can put their heart and soul into something that they're passionate about, throw in their blood, sweat and tears into their something and hope to achieve even HALF of what they put into it. One thing that I learned from having a brand, is that NO MATTER how hard you work on something or how passionate you are. You can ONLY GROW SO MUCH by doing everything on your own. By doing everything on your own, eventually there will come a time when you've reached your limits.
Friends, are where it matters in life as well as within a brand, when YOU'VE REACHED YOUR LIMITS, friends will be there to carry you and bring you to where you need to be, help you expand in what you yourself cannot accomplish on your own.
Speaking of friends, Some friends of mine are having TWO big releases from their own respective companies. Vincent Panzeca of K.I.D Clothing:
bases his clothing brand off of the nostalgia and innocence of what its like to be a kid, in today's world where everybody is too focused on work, bills, and gas prices. People forget about how life used to be. Remember how much fun you had as a kid just to open a fresh pack of Play-Doh? How it felt to ride your VERY OWN brand new shiny red bicycle? It was a simple yet beautiful thing in which many of us has lost sight of.
K.I.D Clothing aims to remind you of what we, as adults, has forgotten:
Vin is planning on releasing a few new shirts from his Spring line sometime soon, the actual release date is to be announce, but for now check em out and support the brand! Shirts are Disney parodies showing the more rebellious side of being a kid *snicker*
My other friend, Carlos Morales, owns the baking lifestyle company OvenFreshDream where "baking and lifestyle collides" and aims to bring the culinary arts alive through baking and proving to the world that baking aren't just for old grannies and such. Having always had a love for cooking, t-shirts and tattoos, Carlos decided to start up his own company that encompasses of all the above. Focusing as a "baking lifestyle" company, Carlos is doing big things by creating sweet culinary treats as well as collectible T-shirts.
His baking:
OvenFreshDream's first t-shirt:
And his newest shirt soon to drop, a collaboration with Phillipine brand Nick Automatic
One of my fave indie brands, "Benny Gold" is finally moving on up!
After establishing himself over the years as a renowned graphic designer and entrepreneur in addition to having reached the limits of what a home business can do, Benny Gold has now moved out of his home office and onto a brand new office located in San Francisco,CA
What does this mean? Means that the OFFICIAL Flagship store of Benny Gold is finally going to open! According to Benny the new office is done and the retail portion of the building should be finished by April 2010.
PREPARE FOR THE GRAND OPENING!! Check out the video below for more info on the upcoming store.
